ARTICLE V - Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We promise that we will strive by the aid of the Holy Spirit:
To walk together in brotherly love, exercising a Christian care and watchfulness over each other, participating in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy, bearing one another’s burdens and sorrows, showing at all times a forgiving spirit;
Not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together at the communion and other appointed meetings, but to seek and pray for the spirituality, harmony, and prosperity of this Church; sustain its worship; and give its claims a sacred preeminence over all organizations of human origin;
To contribute cheerfully of our means, as God has prospered us, for the support of the faithful and evangelical ministry among us, for the relief of the poor, and for the spreading of the Gospel over the earth;
To maintain private devotions, religiously educate the children committed to our care and endeavor, in the purity of heart and newness of life and goodwill toward all men, to exemplify and commend our holy faith, win souls to the Savior, and hold fast our profession till He will come and receive us unto Himself.
We promise: That when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible, unite with some other Church where we can carry out the spirit of this Covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
